It’s Freedom and Justice with Proposals: MODEROID Luxion & Bradyon plus Coupling Set

Catch up time, this one for reveals a couple of weeks ago. Good Smile Company previously revealed during a Mecha Smile Impact doing model kits from Buddy Complex. For those not aware, Buddy Complex is a 2014 Sunrise series involving mecha, high school, time travel, and Pacific Rim-esque mechanics.

The mecha in Buddy Complex are called Valiancers, and we have a pair of special ones, Luxon and Bradyon, that employ ‘Coupling’ technology. When activated, the pilots of each are linked together (hence the Pacific Rim comparison), along with special features being unlocked for each machine, significantly increasing their combat capabilities.

Both kits stand at around 137mm, perfect for my collection.

I’ll likely make a lot of comparisons to the Freedom and Justice Gundams from Gundam SEED due to similar colorways. Design wise, both Luxon and Bradyon are similar, only differentiated by their colors and slight nuances. Each also has an asymmetrically-mounted binder that activates during Coupling Mode, which we’ll check out later.

Between these two, I’ll just get the Luxon, in the same reasoning why I’m just getting the Freedom Gundam kits and none of the Justice.

For weapons, each kit comes with an Assault Rifle M252A2 “Lancehead.”

For melee weapons, Luxion uses the Nector Sword M10N “Straight Edge” while Bradyon has the Nector Sword M11N “Sword Amakuni, ” as well as shields for each.

An important feature of this machines in the series is “Coupling,” and in the anime, this process is initiated in the anime by Aoba, piloting the Luxon, with the voice command “Connective, Dio” to which Dio, piloting the Braydon, acknowledges via the command “Acception.” Then the transformation sequence commences in phases, starting with “First Proposing” and you get the rest.

So far, this post has been presented with side-by-side photos of the Luxon and Bradyon. But now let’s check out how each look individually in Coupling Mode, starting with Luxon.

I will once again invoke the Gundam F91 comparisons as Luxon transformers into Coupling Mode. As you’ve seen in the clip above, the shoulder armor opens up and fins extend outwards, fins also extend from the top of the head unit along with a visor covering the optics. The most notable transformation are the energy wings that are deployed from the rear binder. This provides the Luxon with significant boost in speed and mobility.

Braydon more or less transforms in the same manner, and the solicitations refers to these fins as “Aeroscale” in-universe. Given the nature of the changes and the size of these kits (they are non-scale), parts replacement will likely be involved to facilitate the transformation. And if you know me, I do have a certain tolerance on the transformation of smaller scale kits. This means I will get two copies of the Luxon to build as standard and when in Coupling Mode.

Besides the transformation into Coupling Mode, both units can also sync up and link back-to-back as part of the Code T2 Rise. I’ve included another clip from the anime below for better context.

If you’re planning to get both kits, then you might want to consider the MODEROID Luxon & Bradyon Coupling Set exclusive to the Good Smile Company Online Shop. The set is just both kits sold together, with possibly a cardboard sleeve to hold both packages together. And based on previous combined sets, there are no parts limited to this version.

I’m pretty sure Buddy Complex as a series wasn’t a smash success, but it’s there if anyone curious. But I do appreciate Good Smile Company taking these lesser known titles and release kits of what I consider to be good designs.
