A Wild Optimus Appears! New “Transformers: Wild King” Figures & Anime Revealed

With Transformers EarthSpark seemingly at the end of its run, Takara Tomy has announced a new Transformers anime. In fact, this is the first Japanese-produced show in 10 years, with Transformers Go! being the last one. Rumors of a new gimmick-based line have surfaced recently and this is basically what these rumors are all about. Presenting, Transformers: Wild King.

The series is going to be released on the Takara Tomy YouTube channel, most likely without any subtitles.

“Wild King” is actually a word play for “Wil-Docking” and basically features Optimus Prime and Megatron landing on a mysterious planet abundant with an element-based energy. Along with this are indigenous beast Transformers called Energy Beasts, which each based on a particular element. And of course, both Optimus Prime and Megatron will be fighting over the energy from this planet with the help of these Energy Beasts. Transformers: Wild King is really geared towards children though at least we can still check out the figures.

I will, of course, look at Energy Master Optimus Prime which has all the bells and whistles of an Optimus Prime design, just with a couple of nuances. Most notable are the yellow front windows, which does go better with the whole wild theme of this line. The transformation is basic but has features childred, and some collectors, might find interesting.

For starters, it doesn’t skimp on the articulation despite being a simpler figure, just don’t expect dynamic poses like you see in an Adamas Machina figure. It’s also sized similar to a modern Voyager-class figure according to this TV Magazine blog post, which makes it viable for my collection. For weapons, it comes with an Energy Axe that you can attach the head gear at the back, more on that later.

Flipping the chest panel open reveals a Matrix of Leadership-esque cavity which is key to the Wil-Docking gimmick.

Out of the four Energy Beasts revealed in this initial wave, two are meant to dock with Energy Master Optimus Prime: Light Long, a giraffe, and Hydrophant, a mammoth.

To engage the Wil-Docking feature, you can take apart either Optimus’ arms and legs then attach the Wild Beast as a limb. There’s actually a Wild Docking Set for Optimus Prime and Megatron, with Optimus coming with Light Long to form Lightning Optimus Prime. Note that in the trailer above, the anime refers to this combination as “Thunder Optimus Prime.”

That said, you can combine both Light Long and Hydrophant, or even the two Energy Beasts that combine with Megatron to form this gestalt of all four elements. It’s your toy so play with it however you wish.

Transformers: Wild King WKM-01 Energy Master Optimus Prime

Transformers: Wild King WKB-02 Energy Beast Hydrophant

As for me, I prefer the combination with Hydrophant more since the blue goes better with Optimus Prime’s colors. The combination, based on how they named “Lightning Optimus Prime,” will probably be called “Aqua Optimus Prime.”

But let’s see if I’ll even get an Energy Beast figure, though the combination above does look nice.

Thoughts?
