The third kit in SNAA’s The Round Table Knights series (?) of Real Grade-inspired “Beyond Exquisite” 1/144 scale kits is here and I can’t figure out if this is a derivative of an existing Gundam design or we’re now getting into more original territory. Regardless of design origin, here’s BE 1/144 Achilles, Aegis Knight.

The official solicitation describes Achilles as follows:
One of the Knights of the Round Table, also known as the “Three Horsemen of the Wind” along with Grace and Gawain, Achilles belongs to the fast melee type knight body. The body is equipped with two Swords of Lis and two speed shields. The speed shields contain long-range cannons and melee pincers, and are equipped with thrusters throughout the body, which can quickly shuttle through enemy lines.

The distinguishing feature of Achilles are the two speed shields, each having “Annihilation Cannons” and armor-piercing pincers that can provide both offensive and defensive capabilities. They’re mounted via multi-jointed arms that should allow for more posing options. I just hope these joints can support the weight of the speed shields.

If the speed shields aren’t enough, then Achilles can go even more melee with its pair of Swords of Lis, though I’m inclined to think that these would be more of a last resort type of weapon.

In case you’re not familair with SNAA’s Beyond Exquisite brand, these kits have Real Grade-esque inner frames that you build yourself, compared other Chinese-manufactured kits where these frames are pre-assembled and made from die-cast. These provide both stability and articulation to the kit, and despite yet building one myself, a good number of builders agree to this.

I’m already falling behind on both my Real Grade and Beyond Exquisite kits and I should really start building one of these. The primary feedback I’m getting from SNAA’s offerings are the very small parts that would need special handling though they have my praise for the more traditional and titular Gundam-looking designs. Which means I’ll also get this kit once it’s released this month.
