I just came home from watching Transformers One so my opinions on Sentinel Prime are different compared to when this figure was revealed. By the way, it’s a great movie, probably the best in the franchise, so watch it. In any case, I won’t let these biases affect my look at the upcoming Studio Series Voyager-class Sentinel Prime from Transformers One.

Many are now familiar with this Sentinel Prime’s design thanks to the Prime Changer figure released earlier. And this figure definitely benefits from having the higher Voyager-class price point with more paint and gimmicks, which we’ll check later. The one thing you will definintely notice without needing to watch the movie itself is how the yellow bits are really bright compared to the gold of the actual CG model. Since these images are also CG renders, there’s still a chance the final colors might be more screen accurate.

Something this figure reveal spoils ahead of the movie’s premiere is Sentinel Prime in battle mode. Besides having the signature Prime battle mask, he becomes decked with a whole bunch of launchers, cannons and whatnot. The feet are also pointed down with heel thrusters for added speed. This totally reminds me of those Gundam designs that don’t have legitimate feet since they’re intended for use in space.
I believe this third mode is primarily the reason for the Voyager-class price point, and because he’s definitely taller than both Optimus Prime and Megatron, which both got Deluxe-class figures.

Lastly is his Cybertronnian jet mode and just like my observation earlier, the very bright yellow really washes out the details on these parts. I do see how these are meant to be gold when looking at the canopy, but it could definitely use some tweaks to look better.
Like I said earlier, I won’t let my biases after watching the movie affect my decision to get this figure. After all, I do like the design. This might come as a spoiler to some, but the movie also shows the other Primes in some capacity. I doubt we’ll get these as figures but I will definitely appreciate it if they do.
