Classic Blue and Gold: “Transformers One” Prime Changers SENTINEL PRIME

It might still be several months away, but I’m already looking forward to seeing Transformers One as it will finally provide the mainstream audience with a different perspective of the Transformers lore. Plus, its standalone nature allows a better understanding of this lore without having to worry about canon or connective tissues.

One of the characters we saw in the first trailer in Sentinel Prime, as he seemingly deals with the Quintessons. And with official images of the Prime Changers version being dropped, we finally have a better look at his design and transformation.

To those unfamiliar, the Transformers One Prime Changers are basically your mainline equivalent to a Deluxe or Warrior class figure. They are targeted at younger consumers, but these still have the details and articulation that would fit the shelves of most collectors, myself included.

Just like other iterations of the character, this version of Sentinel Prime does appear to be the direct predecessor of Optimus Prime, or Orion Pax before he eventually receives the Matrix of Leadership. He transforms into a Cybertronnian aircraft though between the toy images and the illustration in the packaging, the latter looks more of a tetrajet we associate Cybertronnian flyers with.

Left to Right: Generation 1, Animated, and Aligned Continuity (Covenant of Primus) versions.

He also sports the same blue and gold colors often associated with him, except for that one time in Dark of the Moon where he’s mostly red and black. As you can see above, the colors match with previous versions of Sentinel Prime.

While I don’t expect Studio Series levels of detail and engineering, the figure still has good articulation coupled with several weapons accessories. These include two shoulder mounted cannons, two twin-barreled blasters that attach to the wings in vehicle mode, and a rather small but functional shield. Everything also attaches in vehicle mode so you don’t need to worry about storage.

Outside of Orion Pax / Optimus Prime, Hasbro is yet to reveal other Transformers One characters in the Studio Series line. So if you want to get a hold of Sentinel Prime the soonest, the Prime Changers version should be a good addition to your collection. The figure is currently listed at €30.99 on one of the Dutch retail sites though I’m inclined to believe it should still be in the same $19.99 price range as the other Prime Changer figures.
