One of the upcoming Transformers figures leaked several months ago was that of a Deluxe class Optimus Prime inspired by his G1 design. I initially thought this would be a Studio Series ’86 version from The Transformers: The Movie since they also revealed a new Studio Series Bumblebee styled after the same movie. But it appears this one’s a little different. In fact, you could say that it is the Missing Link concept done in reverse, sort of.
Shown in the recent Transformers live stream as one of the pipeline reveals is actual packaging art for this upcoming deluxe class Optimus Prime styled after the original G1 toy. It’s not like the Missing Link version where the original toy is given modern engineering and articulation, this one is a modern figure with modern engineering, but with the looks of the G1 original toy.
I don’t think it will have the same simple transformation as the original but the elements should be there, including the yellow eyes and the faceplate vents. It also appears to come with the Energon axe and the more bulbus version of the original Ion Blaster. No release information has been provided but I am looking forward to get my hands on this guy.
