On March 21, 1974, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla was released in Japanese theaters. This marks the first appearance of the mechanized kaiju in the franchise and for fifty years, their battle has continued to endure. Built with intent to be the decisive weapon against Godzilla, Mechagodzilla almost always finds itself on the wrong side of the conflict.
