Always Manages to Pull Me Back: Animester ✕ Nuclear Gold Reconstruction 1/12 White Dragon Knight – Galahad

There’s no denying that ‘mecha musume’ kits, and ‘bishoujo plamo’ in general, are really becoming popular, with companies like Kadokawa even producing a dedicated model kit line. I bought several kits just to see what these are all about, but I haven’t pulled one out of the backlog, so I just stopped buying them until I’ve built at least one.

But it looks like one kit will manage to pull me back and buy one because this one looks really good!

Animester and Nuclear Gold Reconstruction, both companies I’m not familiar with, are partnering to release a 1/12 scale White Dragon Knight – Galahad kit. I’m also not familiar with any source fiction this character appears in, but the blurb in the solication mentions that Galahad is one of Arthur’s knights and uses this magically powered armor when fighting battles.

Here is Galahad in her armored form and the design is based on a white dragon as the name suggests. Unlike Gunpla that has mostly abandoned other types of plastic in favor of KPS, the armor parts of Galahad are made from ABS. This would give them stronger impact resistance but they would also react differently to paint and solutions so consider that when you buying this kit.

Color separation is also a mix of mostly white with clear blue and plated gold for accents. Despite being plated, the gold parts don’t appear to be chrome, which looks better in my opinion. It also comes with a cloth cape with wires to help in holding dynamic poses.

Speaking of dynamic poses, the armor doesn’t seem to hinder articulation and you’re very much able to put Galahad in a multitude of sword-swinging displays. The sword she uses is called the Solemn Sword and is 133mm long, which is almost as tall as her at 170mm when armored. The kit also comes with a display stand to support these dynamic poses.

The solicitations mention two bodies will be included, so I hope not to completely disassemble the kit when changing forms.

Much like any other mecha musume kit, you can display Galahad without her White Dragon armor, dubbed as her light form. The kit does retain all the articulation the armored form has, and then some for those really expressive poses. Galahad also comes with replacement face parts, four of them has tamo printed expressions and another four blank faces that you can customize with the included water slide decals.

You can also display Galahad with a mask on.

The first production run bonus of this kit will be another set of effect parts for the backpack and feet. As you can see above, the bonus parts will react to light differently compared to the standard set of effect parts.

Like I mentioned, this kit looks so awesome that it has pulled me back to buying one more mecha musume kit before it ultimately goes to the backlog. I just hope that I don’t throw it in the backlog with my current momentum of model kit builds. Not to mention that it just looks so cool! With the cornucopia of mecha musume kits out there, it’s getting harder and harder to stand out. So Animester and Nuclear Gold Reconstruction did an excellent job to make sure that Galahad does.
