Stuff on the Office Desk: Here Comes the Armada

Coming from my office desk post last week, I got my copy of Legacy: Evolution Armada Universe Optimus Prime last week and it is a really amazing Transformers figure. It’s not perfect, especially my copy with that core Optimus Prime torso non-locking issue, but it’s still a great one. So much so that I decided to take out a couple of Unicron Trilogy figures from storage.

Tthe new Armada Universe Optimus Prime figure just towers over these two, despite being far behind.

I wasn’t interested in the fully featured and gimmick-based versions of these characters so what I have are the Deluxe class versions of Transformers: Armada Optimus Prime (or “Bendy Prime” as many calls it), and Transformers: Energon Powerlinx Optimus Prime. Again, these aren’t the most articulated figures, but both are quite remarkable coming from the time they were released, especially Deluxe class Armada Optimus Prime.

Given that we already have modern versions of Armada and Cybertron Optimus Prime, it makes me wonder if doing a remake of Energon Optimus Prime is also being considered over at Hasbro/Takara Tomy. I know it’s not exactly the most popular version of the character thanks to its rather bulky design, but it still has its charm. Given that fully articulated combiner figures are now the norm, I don’t see it too far-fetched to see a modern take on this design. But I won’t hold my breath waiting for that release.

Thoughts?
