Stuff on the Office Desk: Completing the ‘Bay-verse’ Primes

As part of the whole reboot/soft reboot/what-have-you of the Transformers live action films, I decided to get copies of the Voyager Class Optimus Prime figures from the mainlines of each film. These would also provide good points of comparison with the Studio Series versions.

For Transformers: Dark of the Moon, they went into the gimmickier side and widely promoted the Ultimate Optimus Prime set, which isn’t exactly movie accurate and is definitely outside the scale I prefer. There’s the vanilla Voyager Optimus Prime figure which had some quirks that deter me from getting a copy. Fortunately, Takara Tomy released a Japanese-exclusive deco that improves some of these quirks and comes with the MechTech trailer. And with most of these aftermarket purchases, I hopped on to Buyee (not sponsored, I wish I were though) and got a copy for a decent price.

Yes, that’s a *repaired* crack on the left foot.

Outside the inclusion of the MechTech trailer, the first obvious change is remolding the rather large gas canisters that become backpacks in robot mode. This version of the mold has significantly smaller canisters and they cleanly tuck to the back in robot mode. The solar panel-like details in were also removed and replaced with clean panels to provide a more cohesive and screen-accurate look in vehicle mode.

On that note, the copy I had had a piece that broke off from its left foot. Fortunately, it was still in the package, and I was able to pin and glue it for a solid connection. That said, it still has an ugly stress mark crack and I’ll probably need to paint the foot to cover it.

I’ll probably do several One Shots posts in commemoration of the end of the ‘Bay-verse’ and the contributions it made to the franchise as a whole.

Thoughts?
