Right after the last episode of Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury drops in Japan, an announcement that totally comes from left field was made, and finally removes one movie out of the vaporware status it has been for so long.
And we also have the official title!
A couple of years back during the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Project Ignited announcement, it was revealed that the long rumored Gundam SEED movie is very much in production, though we haven’t heard anything since that announcement. But following the conclusion of Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury, it doesn’t appear to be the case anymore as not only do we get the title, but a definite release date as well.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM is the next installment following Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED DESTINY and is set in Cosmic Era 75… and that’s pretty much the only thing we know so far. They did release a quick teaser for the film as you can see below.
We see Kira Yamato in his new pilot suit though we don’t know what exactly he’s piloting. We also see a lot of focus on Lacus Clyne in this teaser so she might have a lot more involvement with the story. Otherwise, we don’t see anything else significant, including whether the other cast from Gundam SEED/DESTINY would be returning. What we do see returning is this thing,
I’m not holding my breath that they’ll spend time dealing with what this actually means, but we’ll have to see as Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM is slated for a January 26, 2024 release in Japanese theaters. No news of international distribution has been announced.
