I just posted last week Hiya Toys’ Exquisite Basic MFS-3 Kiryu / Mechagodzilla and how amazing it might be as an alternative to the much harder to get, and more expensive, S.H.MonsterArts version. I now have that on pre-order along with their Exquisite Basic Rockman X. Looks like I’ll add another Hiya Toys pre-order with this announcement, and possibly looking to track down another figure.

To those unfamiliar, though I can’t see why if you’re reading this, ED-209 made its appearance in RoboCop (1987) and is basically one of the behemoths Alex Murphy has to battle with. There have been several iterations of this guy in various scales, with Hiya Toys making ones in 1/18. But we are finally getting a proper 1/12 scale release, along with their other RoboCop figures as part fo the Exquisite Super line.

In the corporate-ruled future of Detroit, ED-209 was created as an automated law enforcement solution—cold, heavily armed, and built to dominate. Designed to replace human police forces, its flawed judgment quickly turned enforcement into uncontrollable violence, making ED-209 one of the most iconic mechanical nightmares in the RoboCop universe.

ED-209 was brought to life on screen via miniature stop-motion, giving it this clunky yet dreadful presence with its staggered movement. At 1/12 scale, the figure stands at around 200mm, not to mention the foot print it will occupy on your shelves. The outer armor also has applied weathering, coupled with all the exterior sculpted and painted details.

I can’t say how this figure will fare when it comes to articulation, but the more important thing is that it should be able to properly stand and balance despite being a top-heavy unit.

ED-209 comes with several effect parts for missile launches, blast effects, and smoke trails. There’s also a damaged arm unit, though I’m not sure if it’s only meant to replace the left arm or it can be used for either.

Here’s a better view of everything that comes in this package, with multiples for the smoke effects, blast effects, and the missiles themselves.

As I mentioned above, there have been various figures and model kits of ED-209 though this is probably the definitive 1/12 scale version. Given Hiya Toys’ seemingly excellent record based on their recent releases, their Exquisite Super 1/12 ED-209 can easily become a sought-after figure for collectors.
Looks like I need to track their 35th Anniversary RoboCop figure.
