I Can Finally Get Kiryu! Exquisite Basic MFS-3 Kiryu from “Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla”

I don’t consider myself to be the biggest Godzilla fan, although I do tend to get Mechagodzilla figures because… well… it’s mecha. For the longest time, I’ve leaned towards S.H.MonsterArts for these and for the life of me, I’m not able to get my hands on the S.H.MonsterArts MFS-3 Kiryu from Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. Despite my numerous trips to Japan, I can only find it in prices I’m not exactly willing to shell out.

It doesn’t help when I see reviews of recent S.H.MonsterArts releases where there’s still more to give in terms of quality, especially with the price tag these things are demanding. This is where Hiya Toys come in as they’ve supposedly been knocking things out of the park with their Godzilla releases, at much more palatable prices. And so, I am definitely delighted when they finally announced the Exquisite Basic MFS-3 Kiryu.

This Mechagodzilla figure stands at 7.7 inches (or 195mm), which I believe does scale well with S.H.MonsterArts releases. It features exquisite-looking silver paint applications with coupled with sculpted details on the exposed mechanical areas, or the areas that let the suit actor move.

For display options, let’s start with the articulation and you can only expect so much movment for such a design. But Hiya Toys have surprised collectors with the stuff they did for Shimo from Godzilla ✕ Kong so it ain’t farteched thinking Kiryu can do much more than what’s shown here. On that note, I am curious how they’ll do the tail section as recent S.H.MonsterArts releases have been hit or miss on that.

For accessories, Kiryu comes with its blue backpack unit and forearm attachments that provide more display options. The forearm units can either just be cannons or have blades attached to them for melee combat options.

But of course, the highlight of this figure is the Absolute Zero Cannon which is deployed by opening its chest panels. At the same time, panels on the thigh units can also open to attach additional leg thrusters.

Here’s everything that comes in the package and as of this post, the Exquisite Basic MFS-3 Kiryu (Mechagodzilla) retails for $99.00, making it their most expensive Exquisite Basic release to date. Compared to something its counterparts over at Tamashii Nations, this is more acceptable. But for those who are used to Hiya Toys releases at the $50-70 range, then thus might be a tougher pill to swallow.

As much as I do want this guy to be in the same price range as their other releases, I believe there’s more to the engineering (or licensing) of this guy that necessitates that price. And with the other option being the hard to track and much expensive S.H.MonsterArts version, I will definitely go with Hiya Toys’ release.
