I’ll probably switch between referring to the Japanese and English names of these machines so please bear with me.

Here’s a quick story time for context. Action Toys announced Mini Action sets for both GoLion and Dairugger XV (i.e., Voltron Lion & Vehicle Forces) at the start of 2023, as the eigth and ninth in the line respectively. However, they ultimately decided to go ahead with Dairugger XV first for a couple of reasons. First is to prevent potential release conflicts with their Action Gokin GoLion/Voltron Lion Force figure, which was released around the same time. And second is to assess the engineering of the figure as they deemed it to be inferior when compared to Dairugger XV.
After a year or so, it looks like they’ve finally cracked it as Mini Action GoLion/Voltron Lion Force is now up for solicitations!

I’ve been looking for a representative Voltron figure for my collection for the longest time. I was initially looking at the SMP [Shokugan Modeling Project] set, and even got two copies. But those would ultimately remain in storage once I found out that Action Toys will include them in the Mini Action line. And based from the images they’ve released, taking the time to do some re-engineering might’ve paid off.

GoLion is one of those designs that collectors often look at both the separate and combined forms when deciding on getting a set or not. Unlike other machines like Voltes V where the separate components are static vehicles, GoLion is combined by putting together five articulated machines. So they can’t just focus on one mode unless they’re doing a non-combining version.

The understandable trade-off that Action Toys implements to keep the price point of these sets relatively low, is to keep the accessories to the bare minimum. Such were the cases for Voltes V and Dairugger XV so I will expect the same for GoLion. The package will come with the King’s Sword Jyuouken and Space Cutter — or the Blazing Sword and Spinning Laser Blades.

Similar to what they did with Mini Action Dairugger XV/Voltron Vehicle Force last year, a special version of this set is was available at ACGHK 2025 where silver plated versions of the Blazing Sword and Spinning Laser Blades are included as a bonus.

I have mentioned this several times in the past, but I want to reemphasize how I’m a total fan of Action Toys’ Mini Action line. I’m aware a good portion of collectors prefer larger sized pieces, especially for combiners like Voltron. But for those who don’t have the luxury of space, and still want to have a fully functional version of the figure, then this is the perfect option.
Now that both Voltrons are confirmed, maybe they can do Albegas? I mean they do have the larger die-cast version so they can just scale it down?
