UPDATE: Revised with package and release information
Following the release of the Transformers One trailer from space (!) we finally got official information regarding the Optimus Prime leaked yesterday.
First and foremost, this is indeed Optimus Prime, which is a rather odd choice given that Transformers One would focus on Orion Pax and D-16 who’ll become Optimus Prime and Megatron. Second, this is indeed a Studio Series release, and is probably the Deluxe class Optimus Prime leaked some time ago. I would’ve preferred a Voyager class figure as the line does promote accurate scaling, but given that these are their Cybertronnian forms, scale relative to each other would make more sense.
At a glance, the transformation looks simple with the arms very much visible in vehicle mode and the legs just there at the back. The single pectoral window does give a more Cybertronian feel to this design, not to mention the absence of wheels. In robot mode, the figure does have the joints for ample articulation, plus a clear blue Energon Axe, a departure from the usual orange.
I just don’t like the yellowish gray they used as it definitely looks like old toys getting bleached under sunlight. I think they’re going for a more golden sheen as seen from the trailer but that doesn’t translate well to the figure, at least based on these images.
We also got packaging reveal and it shows what we expect from a Studio Series release, including the backdrop based on the Iacon cityscape. In addition, it also shows Optimus Prime holding the Matrix of Leadership, which looks like the same mold they’ve been using across several Optimus Prime figures. The Amazon listing also included a 360-degree turnaround in case you wanted a better look.
I am hoping to get figures of the other characters, especially Orion Pax, D-16, and even a Megatron to match this guy. There’s also Orion Pax and supposedly Sentinel Prime so let’s see.
