When Takara Tomy announced Transformers Missing Link Optimus Prime/Convoy, I also somewhat started hunting for a proper G1 Optimus Prime figure. I know there it already has countless reprints, recolors, and reissues, but I’ve yet to get a figure that’s as close as possible to the original, until now.

There are many options to choose from when picking a G1 Optimus Prime figure and for the longest time, I’m leaning towards the 2019 Walmart reissue. Primarily because I don’t really care for the trailer, as blasphemous as some might take that statement. There are a lot of bootlegs of this figure and I was tempted to just pick one of those.
But a good search at Buyee reveals the Takara Tomy exclusive Transformers 35th anniversary set that bundles what’s essentially the Walmart reissue, with Studio Series Bumblebee Optimus Prime. Even better, the copy I got even has an untouched sticker sheet. It finally arrived yesterday and I placed one Autobot sticker on its left shoulder for animation-accuracy.
I know it has been leaked that there will be another Walmart-exclusive reissue of G1 Prime that will come with the trailer, but I think I’m good with the ones I have. On that note, my copy of Lunar Cruiser Prime arrived with this guy. I also pulled the trigger on the Transformers Legends LG-35 Super Ginrai/Powermaster Optimus Prime since I do have the PerfectEffect Jinrai Prime set, as well as the recent announcement of the Masterpiece/MPG versions. Once my LG-35 arrives, I believe I’ve finally caught up with the past releases I wanted to get for my collection.
