Stuff on the Office Desk: THat’s one Heavy Prime

When I started collecting Optimus Prime figures oh so many years ago, I restricted myself to the Deluxe class size/price point. This limits the figures I can buy, which isn’t good for collecting but definitely good for my finances. I eventually eased on that restriction because I am missing a lot of great releases. I still follow some personal rules and stay away from Masterpiece-scale Transformers, and this led me to track those figures I initially skipped.

One of those is Alternators/Binaltech Optimus Prime which comes from a line featuring 1/24 scale versions of real vehicles complete with internal details that can still transform into robots. This is the precursor to the smaller 1/32 scale Alternity line and is meant to appeal to car model collectors. I am aware that these figures aren’t exactly the greatest, thanks to rather complex transformations and subpar articulation but I still decided to track one.

And track one I did as I got this used figure at a great price over at Buyee (not sponsored) and if you’re familiar with the Japanese second-hand market, then you know how most of them are still in excellent condition. Having acquired the Binaltech version, it has a lot more painted detail and is very heavy thanks to the significant amount of diecast parts. This doesn’t improve the issues with the mold, but at least it looks better.
