A Better MS IGLOO? “Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance” Revealed

Following the conclusion of Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury and announcement of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, there’s yet another new Gundam production announced during Anime Expo 2023. This is a bit different though as it’s produced through a collaboration between Bandai Namco Filmworks/Sunrise and Safe House.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is a new project utilizing Unreal Engine 5 for the 3D animation production. It will supposedly be distributed worldwide and will consist of six, 30-minute episodes chronicling the European front during the One Year War in U.C. 0079. It will also focus on characters from the Zeon side of the conflict, which is similar to some installments of a previous 3D CG production: Mobile Suit Gundam MS IGLOO. You can check out the short teaser they released below.

Names linked to the project include Gavin Hynite (Tekken: Bloodline, Transformers: Cyberverse) for the screenplay while Erasmus Brosdau (Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, Star Citizen) will be directing. Erasmus also released a short statement during Anime Expo and you can find that clip below.

Lastly, let’s check out a couple of mobile suit designs revealed for this project.

I don’t want to be that guy raising questions on how Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance fits into the current Universal Century canon, so I’ll reserve judgment until I actually see the series. But the designs for the Zaku and a Gundam shown here are interesting. Again, I’m not sure if the Gundam shown here is supposed to represent the RX-78-2 but with a different visual filter, or it’s a different Gundam altogether. I won’t be surprised if they’re able to insert another Gundam unit during the One Year War but regardless, I like the design. I almost feel that the visual style they’re going for in this project would be similar to what we’ll get for the Netflix Gundam live action film, whenever that gets released.

No official release dates have been mentioned but I’ll definitely check this out once they do.
