The following may contain spoilers for the latest episode of Gundam the Witch from Mercury.
One of the things Mobile Suit Gundam the Witch from Mercury did quite differently compared to previous Gundam series is to have our main protagonist Gundam become, seemingly, the main enemy mobile suit in the series. This is something we’ve previously seen with the villains, but the first time with the main protagonist. Following weeks of hype that’s previously held by Gundam Schwarzette, we now have the official reveal for X-EX01 Gundam Calibarn.
Gundam Calibarn was part of the GUND Format mobile suit development project by the Vanadis Institute funded by the Ochs Earth Corporation. It was one of the candidates built along with Gundam Lfrith, with the latter eventually being selected for pre-production as Calibarn didn’t have limiters to protect its pilot from harm due to data storms. It was secretly confiscated by the Space Assembly League following the Vanadis Incident seen in PROLOGUE and all records of its development were subsequently deleted.
As for episode 23, Guel and Lauda have their family squabble sorted out (MVP award goes to Felsi), Quiet Zero gets stopped, we get a colony laser, and Aerial makes itself a shield against that aforementioned colony laser ala Unicorn Gundam or Mu La Flaga, much to Prospera’s horror. The Space Assembly League also shows its true colors and Delling Rembran doesn’t appear to be the villain we thought he’d be when the series started.
We still have the final episode and at this point, I’m not sure what’s going to happen. We’ll probably have our rag tag group, along with the rest of the Benerit Group taking on the Space Assembly League. Also, what’s going to happen to Eri/Aerial?
