Missed the First Two? Third Time’s The Chance! Exquisite Super 1/12 RoboCop from “RoboCop 3”

I’ve been covering more stuff from Hiya Toys on this site recently, including their Godzilla and Mega Man figures. But a franchise they’ve had figures for quite a while is RoboCop, which they initially offered in 1/18 scale. They have since moved to 1/12 scale and been releasing a definitive version of RoboCop across its classic film library.

I did miss out on their RoboCop figure from the original film and RoboCop 2, but they’ve now opened solicitations for the RoboCop 3 version, and I might just pull the pre-order trigger. While RoboCop 3 from 1993 may not be the best film in the franchise, but it did give the titular robotic law enforcement officer some nifty hardware.

Before going any further, one thing I wanted to check is whether the base RoboCop figure is using the same mold and the differences. It does appear to be the same, with each version having a different paint finish, along with accessories to match how it appeared in their respective film. The RoboCop 3 version is, of course, most notable for the inclusion of a Flightpack unit.

I might place a comparative photo for the three versions. Though at a glance, the original has a flat silver finish, the “RoboCop 2” version features multi-layer metallic paint, and the “RoboCop 3” one has a steel-blue metallic finish.

GIven the RoboCop figure is using the same mold as the previous releases, those who have copies of those versions should expect the same level of articulation. Not exactly what you’d expect from the character, but at least the action figure can do good poses.

Now let’s talk about the Flightpack unit and to be completely transparent, I’ve not watched RoboCop 3, so I have zero context on how it was used. The main component, is of course, the backpack which is accurately sculpted to its on-screen appearance. There are, I assume, working pistons along with wirings and labels.

Despite being a backpack unit, it contains several points of articulation, especially at the arm braces which (ideally) shouldn’t hamper arm movement. You can see which sections are articulated for this purpose.

The set also includes accessories for the base RoboCop figure to recreate how it appeared in notable scenes from RoboCop 3. Most notable is this damaged chest plate piece that you’re able to easily swap with.

Here’s everything that comes with this set. Besides the figure and backpack unit; replacement helmet pieces, face, and hand parts are also included for various display options. There’s also the aforementioned battle damaged chest plate along with several effect parts. Lastly, it comes with a display stand that doubles as a storage case for the smaller accessories.

I believe they’ve yet to release a 1/12 scale RoboCain from RoboCop 2 so that might be next in their pipeline. But I do hope they eventually revisit RoboCop (2014) and release 1/12 scale figures from that film. I know not many liked the film but you must admit, they were able to do a good job in modernizing some of the classic designs. I won’t hold my breath for this, but I can always wish.

Thoughts?
