When Hasbro Gives Up on Translations: New “Transformers: Age of the Primes” Solicitations

There have been several conventions in the last couple of weekends where Hasbro participated and provided more information, and finally opened pre-orders, for figures revealed previously. For this post, I’ll just talk about these three from Age of the Primes, because why not.

Out of the three here, I’m looking forward to Big Convoy the most. Primarily due to the improvements they’ve implemented over the original, which many still consider as a great figure when compared to modern releases despite its age. Second is the decision Hasbro made to keep its original “Big Convoy” name. While there won’t be an explanation for this on the toy itself, even the box doesn’t have the shortest of character bios, this curiosity is enough for me to warrant a purchase.

Video reviews of the samples from these recent conventions are now online so you can check them out for a quick look at this guy. While it’s pretty much a shell-former like the original, I do hope this one has a better way of dealing with those beast mode panels.

Then there’s Quintus Prime, the progenitor of the Quintessons with all its Lovecraftian tentacles. What I’m able to notice from these better solicitation images are the hidden legs among the tentacles as part of its lower appendages. While these would allow the figure to stand, it’s still a better idea if they provided a display stand. Especially given its equally nondescript spacecraft mode.

Its ancient artifact is the Emberstone, which fits within its chest cavity in robot mode and somewhere in its spacecraft mode.

The most oddball-looking of The Thirteen is Amalgamous Prime, originally the first Prime that can transform thanks to the original Transformation Cog. That has become moot at this point since all of The Thirteen has some transformation. That said, Amalgamous is still unique for being modular as we’ll see later.

Many will likely compare him to Shockwave as both have a singlular monoeye as head and optics, but Amalgamous takes the strangeness further with its multiple pairs of hands which manifests its modular body, and modular play pattern.

Its primary alternate mode is this quad-legged spider tank form which uses the back-end of its scythe as the turret.

As alluded earlier, Amalgamous Prime can split into smaller drone units, and each is able to combine in various ways, some of which are shown here. You can also mix and match him with other Transformers figures just like Weaponizers and Armorizers from previous lines.

As a quick recap, here’s all the Primes announced so far:

  • Prima Prime
  • Megatronus, the Fallen
  • Solus Prime
  • Alchemist Prime
  • Star Optimus Prime
  • Alpha Trion
  • Onyx Prime
  • Micronus Prime
  • Quintus Prime
  • Amalgamous Prime

This leaves us with just three more to complete The Thirteen: Vector Prime, Liege Maximo, and Nexus Prime. I am curious how they’ll do Nexus Prime since he’s supposed to be the progenitor of the combiners. Will it be sold as separate figures that combine? We’ll have to wait once the next wave of Age of the Primes figures are announced.

Thoughts?
