It is 2010 and Tamashii Nations has kicked off what I would call “desktop scale” die cast collectible figures with the Super Robot Chogokin line. They obviously started with Mazinger Z so it will make the most logical of senses for the sophomore release to be Great Mazinger. Except that it’s technically not a sophomore release as both Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger, as well as the Mazinger Weapon Set, were released simultaneously, allowing collectors to have a complete display from the get-go.

Since both figures were released at the same time, Mazinger Z and Great Mazinger have similar construction, proportion, and articulation. Except that Great Mazinger has more sharp edges, all were recreated faithfully and poked my fingers several times, so some extra caution when handling is needed. Great Mazinger comes with several accessories, the chief being a really small Brain Condor that can be easily lost, and the Scrander Dash with extra fin parts for the legs. For weapons, the set includes a single Mazinger Blade, a pair of Drill Pressure Punch forearm parts that are compatible with the rocket punch effect parts from the Mazinger Weapon Set, and a couple of effect parts for the Thunder Break attack.

NOTE: The Scrander Dash is deployed from the back of Great Mazinger and is not an external docking flight unit like the Jet Scrander for Mazinger Z.
