Hasbro’s Marvel Legends “Marvel 80 Years” Iron Man has set the benchmark for comic book-style Iron Man figures since its debut in 2019. While subsequent releases have introduced design variations, they all share the same core engineering—offering a consistent and satisfying experience for collectors. Among the most iconic suits, the “Silver Centurion” armor is popular among fans and the original 2004 Toy Biz version was long overdue for an update. Hasbro delivered this update in 2020 with a modern Marvel Legends Iron Man Model 8 “Silver Centurion,” built on the highly regarded 80th anniversary Iron Man mold. The result was a strong figure, though not without a few puzzling design choices.
The sculpt and proportions are excellent, giving the impression that there’s a real person inside the suit. The design also supports a wide range of motion, with clever articulation like the triangular shoulder pads that rotate in sync with the shoulder joints—allowing for full arm rotation. The rest of the articulation is standard for modern Iron Man figures, enabling dynamic poses. However, one odd design decision stands out: the neck joint. Typically, Marvel Legends figures use either a double ball joint or a ball-and-hinge system, with the ball embedded deep into the helmet. In this case, the helmet and neck are molded as a single piece. This results in a visible gap when the head is tilted in certain poses. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it can be distracting. As for accessories, the figure includes the usual set alternate hands and Repulsor blast effects.
