If you’re versed with the source material of the characters from the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, then you know how its version of Peni Parker went towards the cute anime aesthetic. This is also true with her partner SP//dr who ditched the Evangelion-inspired design for the mechanical equivalent of cute: a round cockpit pod with arms and legs. And while I didn’t have issues with this, I definitely gained more appreciation of the design after seeing the film. So much so that I didn’t think twice when the pre-orders for SV-Action SP//dr dropped and immediately secured my copy. Speaking of pre-orders, while the set is billed as Peni Parker with SP//dr, it’s more of SP//dr with Peni Parker as the former is the fully functional figure while the latter is a static accessory piece.

In the film, SP//dr doesn’t have physical or mechanical joints, and all parts of its body were held together with some form of plasma or energy linkage. Obviously, that’s impossible in real life, so Sen-Ti-Nel went with the easiest solution: blue translucent universal joints, and they work for the most part. They’re also tight enough to keep the figure from falling despite the lanky proportions. It also helps that the cockpit pod section is relatively empty save for the circuitry for the LED light up feature. When turned on, the LED shines through the top panel to give an impressive glow, though the spider emblem at the center is easily overpowered. You can also disassemble the figure at the joints, similar to how it appeared in the film and reassemble it in any configuration. For accessories, SP//dr comes with Peni Parker, the display stand Sen-Ti-Nel includes with every release, and a more expressive replacement top panel piece.
