In 2013, Tamashii Nations started dipping its toes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with arguably one of its most popular characters, Iron Man. This came in the form of the S.H.Figuarts Iron Man Mark 6, recognizable for its appearances in both Iron Man 2 and The Avengers. Then in 2017, Tamashii Nations launched the “Hall of Armor” Project which aimed to have all seven original armors in the iconic hall of armor display. At that time, the original 2013 release of the Mark 6 was outdated in terms of engineering and proportions. This prompted Tamashii Nations to release a completely new Iron Man Mark 6 figure to match to their then-modern standards.
The Mark 6 would be first figure in the “Hall of Armor” Project, which means Tamashii Nations has an opportunity to improve on the standards they already have for figures in this scale. Sculpted detail, paint application, and articulation are already up there so there’s really one opportunity for improvement I can see, to which they didn’t. And that’s having only one pair of hand flaps to be used across all the replacement hand parts. I’m quite sure there’s a cost-related reason why they kept this ‘feature’ but it can be quite annoying to remove and reattach these very small parts whenever you need to replace the hands. Quick rant aside, this is an excellent figure and if you’ve been collecting S.H.Figuarts Iron Man releases for the longest time, then this update to the 2013 release is a must have.
