Despite appearing only during the Morocco racing circuit encounter with Ivan Vanko/Whiplash in Iron Man 2, the Mark 5 armor has garnered popularity thanks to its unique and iconic suit up scene. Transforming from a rather conspicuous suitcase, this is Tony Stark’s first attempt at a portable Iron Man suit in the MCU, the progression of which we’ve seen in succeeding films. The Mark 5 is also visually distinct for being segmented and panel-laden, compared to the sleek aesthetic of the other original armors. This meant any action figure of this design must be able to convey the same and have sharp sculpted details.
Fortunately, the designers over at Tamashii Nations thought the same and they were able to create an accurate representation of the armor design in this scale. Not only are the panels well sculpted and detailed, but you also have a glimpse of the deeper internal mechanics, especially in the chest and back sections. They also made the Mark 5 look slenderer compared to the other armors, which makes sense as a portable suit means it will have fewer layers. Besides the more unique sculpting, the articulation and accessories are standard fare. Tamashii Nations didn’t forget to include the armor in its suitcase form though it doesn’t transform for obvious reasons.
