In 2010, the High Grade Universal Century line reached a milestone when it finally expanded beyond Universal Century mobile suits. The Master Grade version released nearly a decade prior set the standard of incorporating fully functional internal frames on Master Grade kits. While the same groundbreaking standard wasn’t expected to the High Grade Future Century version, just the promise of a modern God Gundam kit was still much appreciated. But given that it is a kit from G Gundam, there were expectations on articulation and poseability. Did the HGFC God Gundam meet such expectations?
The short answer would be no, but that’s not saying the kit is a disappointment. In fact, I would assume the focus was making sure all the essential features and gimmicks are covered. For starters, you can easily recreate the God Finger attack by shifting the forearm armor and using the included replacement hand parts. The chest also opens to reveal the Energy Multiplier though you will need to paint it for color accuracy. Hidden thrusters in the legs can be also revealed by opening the rear armor and of course, the wings on the Core Lander can open to complete the God Gundam’s iconic look. Unfortunately, this is where the kit has its worst fault as the center red wings are molded hollow. Extra red strips were included on the sticker sheet to cover them, but I will recommend filling them in and painting afterwards.
