ABSTRACT

The first iteration of the TRANSFORMERS Generations line back in 2010 started with the release of characters that appeared in the TRANSFORMERS War for Cybertron video game. This included Cybertronnian Optimus Prime, considered by many as one of the most complex Deluxe class Transformers released. Come 2012, the line returns after a brief hiatus and like its predecessor, the initial wave also featured characters from a video game, TRANSFORMERS Fall of Cybertron. However, the similarities end there as the rising costs of production definitely took a toll on these releases. For a Deluxe Class figure, this Optimus Prime is noticeably smaller than its previous incarnations and a lot simpler to transform. This size discrepancy contrasts the heavy aesthetic that the design is going for. Likewise, its alternate mode produces a very compact vehicle — often dubbed by the designers as “fist on wheels”. Despite these problems, the figure has great articulation, with the transformation joints complementing the overall poseability. Display options for Optimus Prime include his signature rifle that can be used in both robot and vehicle modes, as well as multiple 5mm holes for utilizing weapons from other releases.
