ABSTRACT

Following the pattern of TRANSFORMERS Armada, the 2004 series TRANSFORMERS Energon also saw the release of Optimus Prime in multiple size classes. Hasbro released this figure as part of a store-exclusive two-pack together with Voyager Class Megatron. The main gimmick for this release, and most of the Deluxe Class figures in the line, is the "Powerlinx" combiner mode. Instead of the ability to form its Super Mode, Optimus Prime transforms into either the upper or lower half of a combiner body that can Powerlinx with another compatible figure. Most of the joints of the figure were ratcheted due to the said gimmick, but much of the articulation was also lost as trade off. This, together with the dis-proportioned animation model of Optimus Prime, lead to the lackluster execution of this release. For accessories, the figure only came with a single rifle molded in clear blue plastic.
