BLOG: Today’s Robits – First Quarter 2016
|This is Today’s Robits – posts that showcase CATALOGUE-related acquisitions for the entire duration of the covered period. In other words, it’s all about this
Just decided to compile all the robits acquired during the first quarter of 2016 because reasons. The ‘Revive’ version of the HGUC Gundam Mk-II is a given so no questions here. What’s interesting is that Bandai still continues the tradition of releasing a G-3 Gundam whenever a new mold of the RX-78-2 Gundam comes out. Such is the case for the ‘Revive’ version with the Gunpla Expo exclusive HGUC G-3 Gundam. Though other than the different color scheme and additional marking seals, it’s the same banana.
|Here’s another couple of High Grades with no similarities between them whatsoever. First the HG Gundam AGE-3 Fortress, a design this collector doesn’t really find appealing. Not sure why though it’s probably the colors — the combination of the core Gundam colors with the dark purple arm and leg units just looks jarring. Will likely paint this to a much consistent-looking color scheme once the build starts.
On the other hand, the HGBF ∀ Gundam Shin is likely dedicated to those who still hate the mustache design of the original ∀ Gundam years after its broadcast. Though on its own it’s still a great looking mobile suit design.
|Making the transition from model kit to figure purchases are these two items, the first being an exclusive in the VOLKS Website Store. This is the Berserga Super Execution, incorrect spellings aside, as it appeared in the novel series Armored Trooper VOTOMS: The Blue Knight. What’s great with this kit is that it’s in line with the other 1/35 VOTOMS kits that Volks has been releasing.
Following it is a much welcomed L-Gaim [Spiral Booster], a variant of the original L-Gaim release that’s quite hard to come by nowadays. Everybody seems to find the L-Gaim Mk-II figure easily but not so much for its predecessor.
|Further diving into the figure end of the spectrum are these two, one being an introductory release to a much appreciated figure concept. Prior to this release, there hasn’t been a Zoids figure/model kit line that’s perfect for the CATALOGUE. With the promise of continuing the Murasame Liger lineage and eventually doing a Blade Liger release, this line is a must buy.
Figure manufacturers are seemingly into the Expelled from Paradise train recently with multiple Angela Balzac figures and this one of the New Arhan. Here’s hoping that MegaHouse also do one for the original Arhan, it’s also a great design.
|Capping this batch starts with the Battle Droid from the Star Wars prequels. With army-building potential similar to the Shocker Combatmen from Kamen Rider, getting this figure is a real treat. Still waiting for those C-3P0, R2-D2, and BB-8 figures Tamashii Nations.
Finally is the Iron Man Mark 40 "Shotgun" from Comicave Studios who saved the Iron Man license from Play Imaginative and actually got to release figures. With Hot Toys covering the "House Party Protocol" at 1/6 scale, Comicave Studios decided to do the same in the 1/12 scale which is totally amazing. Who would’ve though that there will be a 1/12 scale Igor or Silver Centurion figures with 75% die cast content and LED light up features? Will definitely get the a Red Snapper figure once they make one.
