BLOG: Today’s Robits – August 2015

Today's Robits - August 2015 This is Today’s Robits – posts that showcase CATALOGUE-related acquisitions for the entire duration of the covered period. In other words, it’s all about this month’s hobby loot.

So what about May, June, and July? Hopefully those will be posted within the week. In the meantime, here are the robits for August, starting with books.

Every couple of years, Kadokawa releases MOBILES SUIT Illustrated, a book chronicling every official mobile suit design made from Mobile Suit Gundam in 1979 to the latest series. For the 2015 edition, it covers designs up to Gundam Build Fighters Try and GUNDAM Reconguista in G. Oh and this thing is heavy, like 2 kilos worth of both mobile suit designs both in color and line art. So yeah, totally worth it.

Today's Robits - August 2015 Here’s another new Japanese graphic novel that will add up to the backlog created by Vertical’s Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN. Imagine Ultraman but instead of turning into giant silver beings of light, they just put on a robotic powered armor of murder justice just like Iron Man. And that’s basically the premise of the ULTRAMAN graphic novel.

In line with this, Tamashii Nations released a figure that’s a collaboration between two lines — S.H.Figuarts and Ultra-Act. The armor designs were made by Tomohiro Shimoguchi, the same guy who did Linebarrels of Iron. As of the moment, more armors are coming out from the graphic novel based of Ultraseven and Ultraman Ace. Hopefully Bandai gets to release figures of those as well.

Today's Robits - August 2015 Now onto the good stuff, here are a couple of Bandai Hobby Online Shop exclusive kits.

First is the regular yet online exclusive version of the Pale Rider as it appeared in the game Mobile Suit Gundam Side Story: Missing Link. Apart from being in non-metallic colors, this guy has a lot more weapons in store. It can also be built in two ways, first in its regular operation mode and the other is with the HADES System active.

Bandai took a while with the second kit but they finally released “Wings of Light” effect parts for the HGUC Victory Two Gundam and its variants. The set comes with two pairs, one in pink and the other in blue.

  • HGUC 1/144 | Expansion Effect Unit “WINGS OF LIGHT” for VICTORY TWO GUNDAM
Today's Robits - August 2015 The next couple of kits are quite exciting as these are setting the new standard for High Grades as part of the ‘Revive’ initiative. As of this post, three Gundam kits have been released, two of which are shown here.

When Bandai announced the ‘Revive’ kits, everyone expected that the RX-78-2 Gundam will be there. Unlike the Master Grades were each iteration were denoted by a version number, the HGUC just simply went with the same nomenclature. The runners were only differentiated by the kit no. in the line. Then there’s the much needed update for the Freedom Gundam as the original High Grade is very outdated compared to modern standards.

  • HGCE 1/144 | ZGMF-X10A FREEDOM GUNDAM
Today's Robits - August 2015 Wasn’t really planning to get the RG 00 Raiser for the next couple of months but managed to snag one thanks to a local toy show and discounted prices. And with this collector’s better confidence towards Real Grades thanks to the Wing Gundam Zero EW build, here’s hoping that these kits won’t stay much on the back burner.

As for the Earth Engine Impacter, well it took quite a while to get here. It was shipped around the middle of May but took more than three months to arrive. And despite how the show eventually fared, the design of this guy is quite amazing.

Today's Robits - August 2015 Wasn’t able to get the HG Customize Campaign sets last year despite ordering a couple of HG kits from HobbyLink Japan. This year it was a little different as they were able to include almost all sans Set B which was compensated by two copies of Set D. Particularly looking forward to building those huge manipulators for the Build Burning Gundam as seen here.

Now thanks to the same toy show where the RG 00 Raiser was purchased, two more HG Customize Campaign sets were provided, this time two from the 2014 Summer sets.
