BLOG: HGBF Hi-Nu Gundam Vrave – Prototype Shots

HGBF Hi-Nu Gundam Vrave Here’s another mobile suit that has its fair share of naming mishaps, spelling in particular. Appearing in Gundam Build Fighters Amazing/Document is the Hi-ν Gundam Vrave. Now prior to this, its name has been spelled as "Brave", and then "Vrabe" (the latter spells really stupid by the way).

Naming debacles aside, the mobile suit still retains the basic Hi-ν Gundam design with bits and pieces added to make it Tatsuya Yuuki’s personal unit. Consequently, the rear fin funnel assembly has been turned into a support unit that’s similar to the Trans-Am Booster.

Yup, definitely getting this one.

Are you sure that it was originally the “ν Gundam Brave”? Sure, that is what everyone likely assumed at first glance, but is there any documentation of the Japanese spellings used? Newer sources featuring the “Vrabe” designs spell it as such in Japanese. Which piques my interest on how you pronounce it? Personally, it’s either “fu-ra-be”, leaving out the third character or “fray-be”, when spelling in English. It could be very well the name of a surfboard manufacturer, at least in my opinion.

Of things worth mentioning, I’d like to add that all of the GBF-MSV (for the lack of a better name) kits are actually mass-produced model kits based on original scratch builds. This one is from NAOKI, a modeler who works for Dengeki Hobby.

I am stoked how this rendition will fare against the “Hi-ν Gundoom”. Hopefully, all six fin funnels will be finally deployable instead of only two compared to the base kit from 2007, but I won’t be surprised if they manage to ignore that.

Also – while it is indeed a “support unit” the backpack also takes the shape of an pterodactyl! Given the how long the Transformers toy lines put an emphasis on “everything is better with dinosaurs”, I’m surprised there is no mention of that.

  2. First of all, thanks for the comment, quite a lengthy one at that. Regarding “Brave” or “Vrabe” I’m no expert in the Japanese language but the spelling of the latter just didn’t look right, for me at least. That’s why I’m looking forward to when Bandai reveals the box art, to get this spelling debacle out of the way.

As for the support unit, it indeed has a bird-like form when not docked. I just didn’t mention it since it has been said everywhere else and the post is more of just my personal reaction on this guy overall.

    Always appreciate any feedback/comment. Cheers!
