BLOG: Today’s Robits – August 2013
|This is Today’s Robits – posts that showcase CATALOGUE-related acquisitions for the entire duration of the covered period. In other words, it’s all about this month’s hobby loot.
Now August isn’t usually a month with many robit purchases so this one comes as a surprise. First is Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann here which ends a five-year mission of completing all Gurren Lagann forms, and is the main reason of not getting the better versions of that machine.
The next two are technically no brainers as Iron Man is always welcomed here and Orion Pax is a great IDW design that really should be made into plastic. Glad that both are happening.
|The next items are two of the more elusive lead-machine ROBOT Damashii figures, at least for this collector.
On the left is Taubarn (it was better spelled as "Tauburn"), cybody of the Galactic Pretty Boy Takuto as it appeared in STAR DRIVER Kagayaki no Takuto. Got it pre-owned from the person running the website JEfusion. Getting this figure is enough reason to start watching the show.
Then there’s this oddly-named machine Dann of Thursday from GUN X SWORD. Haven’t watched the series so yeah, totally clueless of where its name came from. It also doesn’t help that this collector doesn’t particularly like Thursday of all days. Oh well.
|Following that is the first of two items that came from the awesome people at Sen-Ti-Nel.
Originally released a couple of years ago, the demand for this figure was high enough that Canti (both green and red versions) was reissued. For the uninitiated. Canti is the medical **robot** that appears in the OVA FLCL.
So why is it part of the RIO:bone line? More over, why is Jushin Liger part of the RIOBOT line when it is very clear who is the robot between the two?
Anyway, as seen in the window packaging, Canti comes with a lot of accessories which would make taking pictures of this figure a much enjoyable experience.
|The second Sen-Ti-Nel figure of this month’s robits comes from the on-going manga and upcoming animated series Knights of Sidonia.
Enclosed in this minimalist black packaging is a 1/144 scale figure of the Type-17 Morito Tsugumori as used by Nagate Tanikaze, the protagonist of the story.
Those who have seen reviews of this figure will know that it has probably the longest rifle accessory included in a scaled figure/model release. That also raises the question of how to photograph it as the rifle is definitely longer than the space inside this collector’s light box.
|Capping off this haul are figures of two robits that have the least plastic representation.
On the left is ROBOT Damashii x Ka Signature Xi Gundam, a Tamashii Web Exclusive. This figure is, in essence, an upgrade to the Gundam Fix Figuration version with better poseability and construction while still featuring all the details known for a Katoki redesign.
Then there’s RahXephon from the Variable Action Hi-Spec line. Many have compared this machine to Evangelion though the comparison can’t be made to the merchandise as prior to this, RahXephon was only available as an old Bandai model kit. So yeah, more lead machines!
