#1005: TRANSFORMERS Prime – FIRST EDITION | OPTIMUS PRIME
PROFILE (ROBOT MODE)
PROFILE (ALTERNATE MODE)
Hasbro’s original intent for all the figures from the TRANSFORMERS Prime series was to have them included in the TRANSFORMERS Generations line, in the same way that they did with the characters from the TRANSFORMERS War for Cybertron game. However, further decisions prompted that they be released in a separate line instead. And while the design of this Optimus Prime is a derivative of the live-action movie version, it introduces enough visual elements to distinguish it from other incarnations of the Autobot leader. The figure itself is fairly accurate to the animation model, especially in the vehicle mode, and the transformation to robot mode features unique engineering that wouldn’t be possible years back. For accessories, it includes the standard rifle that can be mounted on the arm to mimic the effect of a transformed gun, instead of being a separate accessory.
For the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2011, Hasbro released an event-limited version of this figure. Seen here is the “Matrix of Leadership” exclusive where the figure itself is contained in a plastic enclosure that is shaped like the famous Cybertronnian artifact. This enclosure then comes inside a box that’s designed to look like the chest of Optimus Prime which will reveal the Matrix when opened. In comparison to the regular version, this exclusive has minor differences in color applications. The very noticeable of which are the chest windows where this version comes in a dark gray color scheme while the regular one is in light blue. Also, the regular version will be retailed in an Entertainment Pack which will also include a Deluxe Class Megatron and PVC figurines of the human protagonists.
